Minister for Justice Michael Keenan and New South Wales Minister for Emergency Services Troy Grant today announced disaster assistance in response to last Friday's bushfire (17 February) that affected the Queanbeyan-Palerang local government area.
Minister Keenan said the assistance is being provided through the jointly-funded Commonwealth-State Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA).
"Our thoughts are with those who have lost their homes as a result of this devastating bushfire," Mr Keenan said.
"The Australian and NSW governments have acted quickly to ensure that affected communities have access to the assistance they need to recover as quickly as possible."
Minister Grant praised the efforts of the firefighters who put their lives on the line to fight this bushfire.
"The firefighters who responded have done a terrific job in protecting threatened properties," Mr Grant said "Without their efforts there is no doubt more homes would have been lost."
