Minister for Emergency Services David Elliott and NSW Rural Fire Service Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons today announced the NSW Government will be working collaboratively with the Australian Government to provide aerial firefighting assistance to Indonesia.
The NSW Government assistance will include sending the Lockheed L100 Hercules Air Tanker as well as a highly trained Rural Fire Service team.
Minister for Emergency Services David Elliott said Australians understand firsthand the devastating effect bushfires have on local communities, which is why the NSW Government is proud to be able to offer assistance.
"With more than 100,000 people affected, we are more than happy to provide any assistance that could help get these fires under control.
"I would also like to personally thank the Rural Fire Service team that will be travelling to Indonesia to assist with the firefighting efforts." Mr Elliott said
NSW Rural Fire Service Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons said that the immediate forecast was carefully considered before the aircraft was released.
"Discussions have taken place with the Bureau of Meteorology that have included our interstate colleagues regarding the potential requirements over this period.
"If we see a sudden increase in fire activity in NSW we still have more than 100 aircraft including the DC 10 Southern Belle, at our disposal.
"Firefighting is often an international effort and the NSW RFS is proud to be able to assist." Commissioner Fitzsimmons said.
