Fact: vulnerable people and bushfires
In 2009, 173 people died during the Black Saturday Fires in Victoria. Almost half of these people were more vulnerable because of age, ill health or both.
16% were aged 70 or over
9% were children under 12
24% had chronic health conditions
5% had acute disabilities that probably affected their mobility, judgement or stamina
