The facts on Police numbers

16th August 2012

Ministerial media release

The Opposition needs to stop lying on police numbers, Minister for Police and Emergency Services, Minister Gallacher said today.

Here are the facts:

  • Under Labor, there were 15,556 police as at June 2010.

  • Under the Liberals & Nationals, there were 15,956 as at June 2012.

  • That's an increase of 400 police officers.

  • By the end of the month this number will reach 16,016

"These facts may not be convenient for the Labor Opposition, but the reality is there are more police on the streets now than at any other time in NSW history," Minister Gallacher said.

"The Labor Opposition needs to stop scaremongering and start acknowledging the good work of the NSW Police Force.

"The only thing Labor has shown some aptitude in is the peddling of lies to the people of NSW," Minister Gallacher concluded.
