Course nomination forms
Nomination form for NSW non-residential courses
To apply for a course:- Download and complete all sections of the application form.
- Sign the form (Applicant's Signature)
- Ensure it is signed by the appropriate person in your Agency (if applicable).
- Send the completed and signed Nomination Form to the District Emergency Management Officer (DEMO) who will be managing the Course (see the NSW Emergency Management Course Calendar for the list of all Course Managers).
- The Nomination Form must be received before 5pm on the Closing Date for the relevant course.

Local Information
The Far West District occupies an area of approximately 294314 square kilometres or 37% of the State of NSW with a population of 45,000 people. This vast area is highlighted by long distances between towns and communities, it contains large areas of farming and grazing land with the service towns of Broken Hill, Nyngan, Cobar, Bourke, Brewarrina, Wilcannia and Wentworth scattered throughout, it is also recognised as one of the leading mining areas in New South Wales with Tourism a major growth industry.
The Local Government Areas within the Far West Emergency Management District are the of Bogan Shire, Bourke Shire, Brewarrina Shire, Central Darling Shire, Cobar Shire, Wentworth Shire and the combined Broken Hill City Council and Unincorporated Area.
The District waterways are the Darling, Bogan, Barwon, Paroo, Warrego, Culgoa and Murray Rivers and the Menindee Lake Systems attract people associated with water sports and recreational activities.
The City of Broken Hill is the major service centre of the District with a population of approximately 20,440 people with many Historical buildings, Museums, Art Galleries and Attractions. The height above sea level is 320 meters and the average rainfall is 235mm per year.
There are many National Parks throughout the district with the Sturt NP near Tibooburra, Kinchega NP, Mutawintji NP and Peery NP in the Broken Hill District, Mungo NP near Wentworth, Gundaboolka NP and Culgoa NP near Bourke.
Far West District is well serviced by a wide range of health and ancillary services, the Royal Flying Doctor Service has its regional base at Broken Hill, and from this site a medical service and regular clinics are conducted to outback centres and properties.
The main road transport routes through the District are the Barrier Highway, Silver City Highway, Cobb Highway, Mitchell Highway and the Kidman Way. Broken Hill is the major railway station & rail corridor between the East and West coasts of Australia and south to Adelaide. Major Airports are Broken Hill, Nyngan and Cobar with many small airstrips sprinkled across the district.
MINING - Production and transport of silver, lead & zinc is a major activity in the Broken Hill area. Opal mining is undertaken at White Cliffs. Copper and gold mining are features of Cobar Shire
RURAL INDUSTRY - These activities are carried out throughout the District and include such activities as sheep, goats, beef cattle, viticulture, stone fruit, citrus and market gardening and protected by the Fruit Fly exclusion Zone.
COTTON - Large scale cotton farming is undertaken at Tandou Lake and Bourke. The extensive use of chemicals is a feature of this industry.
Major Hazards would be Storms, Bush Fires, Hazardous Material, Transport Accidents and Water Supply contamination, however Exotic Animal or Plant disease, Earthquake, Floods and Fires would have a major impact on the District.
