Western NSW bushfire
- 3 deaths - two civilians and one firefighters
The south-west region experienced severe bushfires in late January. A fire-fighter clearing a firebreak with a bull-dozer was killed at Deniliquin when his vehicle was overtaken by flames, while a father and son were trapped by flames and died while fire fighting on their farm near Gundagai. Other fires caused injury and property damage including in the Cootamundra region.
